During Summer Term 2 we are learning about BBQ’s.
As you may or may not have a BBQ at your house all the recipes I will provide here can be made using an oven or grill. Each week I will add a link to a recipe for you to try at home Ask your adult to support you in the kitchen, DO NOT try and make anything without telling an adult first. In addition to the recipes there are some ideas for variations which you could try (these are for those who work Independently in the school kitchen – please contact e.pemberton@theviewtrust.org if you are unsure which group you/your learner is in).
There will also be links to worksheets and extension activities and you can find some general skills based activities for this topic.
Food Hygiene – There are lots of different food hygiene rules that you need to learn and use when cooking. Below are some different activities to help build your knowledge and skills.
Food hygiene and kitchen safety
(Higher/Middle Ability) – Think about which food hygiene and kitchen safety rules apply when using a BBQ. Write them down using the sheet, or discuss with your adult.
Summer 2 (Week 1): Grilling Chicken (or a meat substitute)
This weeks recipe involves making a marinade for a chicken breast (alternatively you can use a quorn fillet or some halloumi). You can then cook the marinaded chicken on a BBQ or under a grill.
Remember to ask permission before you cook anything. I have put two versions of the recipe below, one in symbol and text form, the other as an Instructional sheet with photographs.
As an extension activity consider other marinades you could use, for example: Garlic and Herb. What ingredients might you use?
The video below has some more ideas- remember to ask permission before trying any out! Pay attention to all the food hygiene instructions!
