Mark making activities

This is a lovely idea for encouraging mark making – simply attach a felt-tip, paint brush or crayon (depends how brave you are feeling!!) to a toy car or train and support your child to move the vehicle around the paper – leaving a trail of where they have “driven!”

How about a vehicle wash station? You don’t have to cover the vehicles in “dirt” (chocolate mousse or real dirt??) but it can make it fun! I’ve seen an idea if you don’t have a suitable area to allow any messy play then how about relocating some of these activities to the bath? Just a thought … easily washable afterwards? You could simply use a washing up bowl or a large plastic box.

Sensory activities

Here are a few sensory ideas that we would explore with the children in class: there will be lots of other things you can think of too ….

Try the taste of popcorn, candyfloss and ice cream.

Smell salty water, suncream, fish (!!)

Look at and touch a beach ball, some sand, look through sunglasses, a pretty shell.

Listen to the sounds of seagulls, the crashing of the waves and the sounds of the funfair rides through Youtube

The beach sensory storyHere is a lovely simple story that you could resource and repeat again and again with your children. I have identified some resources you could use to support the story but, again, you could add or adapt the resources for what you have available.

Cover page – the sound (from You tube of a car driving) the smell of suncream

Page 1 – a hot water bottle, sunglasses
Page 2 – a small pot of sand, a towel
Page 3 – shells or pebbles, make some pretend seaweed (!)
Page 4 – water in a bottle (coloured if possible with blue food colouring), swimming costume
Page 5 – ice cream!! or something cold to touch (a spoon in the fridge or freezer does the trick)
Page 6 – as above – if possible make a “fizz” sound with a bottle
Page 7 and 8 – just repeat the phrases
Page 9 – water spray or flicking water from a cup at your child!!
Page 10 – wrap up in a jumper and play the car sounds again

Hope you have fun with this!!

Help kidz learn activities.

The redeem code RBBDPT will give you an actvity based around holiday types and asks the child “what holiday would you like?” you could make this activity a sensory one by exploring some warm and cold clothing

Summer holiday colouring. If you have aprinter then these sheets will give a focus for your child to mark make using crayons, felt tips, finger painting. If you do not have access to a printer then please let me know and I will organise for these sheets to be printed and sent off to you from school

Seaside cut and stick activity. Create your own seaside picture using images already created. Either that or how about making a seaside collage using pictures from magazines?

Ice cream!!! Always a favourite! Why don’t you try to make your own in a bag? Try different flavours, different toppings and listen to the ice cream songs ….

How about using the carriages of a paper train (or a toy train if you have one) to spell out the letters of your child’s name?

Collect together some junk from the recycling box and make up a vehicle model … Google images have tons of inspirational ideas

Here are some colouring and sorting actvities that you could print. If you do not have a printer and would like anything preparing and sending home then please email me via the school office … office@theviewtrust.org

VE day - on the 8th May 2020

Friday 8th May special day for our country as it marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the second world war. Many families will celebrate this by holding a “Stay at home” street party, decorating their homes and making some red, white and blue food or even tryinng out some of the Wartime recipes from the booklet below. Here are some ideas for activities you could do at home this week to begin to prepare for Friday! You could listen to some of the music and look at some of the photos and film footage from that day too. It was a time for huge celebration right across the country.

Here is some dyed rice … it won’t stay in the Union Jack for very long but will be mixed together and enjoyed by your child for ages!!

Take 1 cup of rice and put it into a sealable container, add 1 teaspoon of vinegar then as much food colouring as you want (the more you add, the stronger the colour will be!) Seal the container, shake well then allow to dry. Repeat for different colours. Just a warning … it can go everywhere so go outside if possible!

We might not be going on holiday just at the moment but there are lots of things that we can still do around the theme of holidays and travel from the comfort of our own homes! Have a look at the ideas below and get some inspritation! As always, try to make your activities as ‘sensory’ as possible and use lots of lovely language with your children. They will need support to physically engage with the activities and don’t try to do too much … just enjoy your “holiday at home” actvities!
