What we are learning in P5 - Summer Term 1

Below you can find P5’s topics for the first half of the Summer term. There are some learning materials that we would be using in class and activities that can be done at home! There are also lots of familiar activities and songs from our key skills lessons.

Ask an adult to help you access the activities throughout this page and then have a go on your own!

Maths

In Maths we are learning all about time!

We are learning to:

  • Name the days of the week
  • Name the months of the year
  • Sequence / order events correctly
  • Read a clock to o’clock and half past

Warm up your brain with the familiar maths songs below!

Can you use your hands to count up to 10 and back down to 1?

Can you count along to the ‘Big Numbers’ song? How high can you count along? What’s the biggest number that you can remember afterwards?

We have previously studied how to read clocks to the hour. Use the slides below to recap how to read clocks and try to identify the time on each clock.

Challenge: Can you find a clock or watch in your house? What time does it read? Can you draw a clock and set it to a certain time?

English

Our topic in English is “Where we live!”

Warm up singing along to the phonics song! Can you sign the letters and words?

Ask an adult for help using Google Maps and Google Earth to find your house! You can do this on a computer, tablet or mobile phone.

Challenge: Can you locate some nearby places, such as parks, shops and schools?

This Summer we are learning about Lancashire Music. Have a listen to the examples of local music below, including George Formby and “Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats & Dogs” which references Lowry’s paintings.

These songs celebrate the characteristics and history of our local community.

It is important to understand the history of our local area and music helps us to learn more about it.

Have a look at the video below of a modern Oasis song which celebrates the work of a local artist, Lowry, and demonstrates the character of our local community.

PE

In KS2 PE we are learning how to dance like a superheroes!

This can either be dancing to superhero music however you want or wearing a superhero costume and dancing to any music.

Make sure you are moving in lots of different ways, taking big steps and little steps and moving fast and slow to the music.
