In Maple Class this half term, our topic has been ‘Europe’.
As part of our Food Technology sessions, Maple Tree had a fantastic time making apple crumble, a traditional British dessert. This linked perfectly with our learning about different countries in Europe and their cultures, with a special focus on the UK.
We followed a simple recipe step-by-step, measuring out ingredients, peeling and chopping apples, and rubbing together flour and butter to make the crumble topping. Learners developed a range of practical life skills during the session, including fine motor control, following instructions, and working as part of a team.
Everyone really enjoyed the sensory experience of preparing and tasting the apple crumble — especially the delicious smell after it had cooked!
It was a lovely hands-on way to bring our topic to life and celebrate some of the flavours of Europe and we look forward to continuing exploring different European foods.
